I moved north because I saw opportunities that didn't exist in the south. Instead of going from contract to contract, I got a permanent job at CBC North. I moved to Inuvik in the spring of 2000 and was able to get ahead much faster than I would have in the South. I started my own writing business at 24, and used that experience to get a job as a writer with the health department. I’ve been working in communications for the GNWT for more than ten years, taking a variety of assignments from writing legal guides to producing public health campaigns to working in the premier’s press office. It’s the sort of opportunity I wouldn’t have anywhere else.
