This traditional North Slavey speaking community in the Sahtu settlement area is located north of Great Bear Lake above the Arctic Circle. The community land corporation participates in joint ventures in heavy equipment hauling, road construction, catering, accommodations, helicopters and more. However hunting, fishing and trapping are still important parts of Colville Lake’s economy, and employment largely involves community services.
Colville Lake is accessible only by air in summer via North Wright Airways from Norman Wells. There is ice road access in winter. The school serves Kindergarten to Grade 12. The community has a health centre, groceries and accommodation for visitors.
