Under the guidelines of the Canada Health Act, the NWT ensures that all residents have access to medically necessary hospital and physician services based on need, not on ability to pay. The NWT also provides a range of services beyond the Act's basic provisions.

Education in the NWT

The education system is the responsibility of the territorial government in the Northwest Territories (NWT) The Northwest Territories has a culture-based education system, which reflects, validates and promotes the values of the community’s cultures.

Early Childhood and K-12 education in the Northwest Territories offer French as a second language and/or French immersion. The territory also has established Teaching and Learning Centres to develop materials for Aboriginal languages.

Student Financial Assistance

The Northwest Territories provides additional funding sources to offset the cost of post-secondary education through a combination of grants and remissible and repayable loans. http://www.nwtsfa.gov.nt.ca
