Aklavik Community Details
Located on the west side of the Mackenzie Delta, Aklavik was once the hub and trading centre of the Western Arctic. The name
Aklavik means barren-ground grizzly place in Inuvialuktun. The first bush pilots used it as a main stopping off point. It remains an excellent trapping area and key transportation centre.
